Trends in the development of modern world pharmaceutical market are associated with switching to use enantiomerically pure (optically active) drugs.
At IOS UB RAS, a patentable and technological method for preparation of Levofloxacin, the efficient antibacterial drug, was developed; two applications for Russian patents were filled in. The method is based on the original synthetic route to enantiomerically pure substances via kinetic resolution of optical antipodes of the partially hydrogenated racemic methylbenzoxazine in reactions with a chiral acylating agent, i.e. naproxen chloride.
A set of technical documentation for the production of required starting materials, key intermediates and the substance of Levofloxacin in Russia has been developed.
A technological base for the organization of industrial production of Levofloxacin is being set up at OOO “Plant Medsintez” (Novouralsk, Sverdlovsk Region).
